South Africa is a fabulous outdoor country and is definitely best explored
on foot. The Cape Town area offers the best variety of walks and in September the unique fynbos is flowering, southern right whales, penguins and Cape
fur seals can be seen from the coastal footpaths. This is also a great bird-watching area. There are the magnificent botanical gardens at Kirstenbosch
and the attractive Waterfront area in Cape Town to visit.
With a network of well maintained trails you’ll be walking on Table Mountain and out to the Cape of Good Hope, which is the most southerly tip of Africa, and discovering the lesser-known rugged and remote West Coast National Park and the beautiful scenery of Kogelberg National Park, as well as the vineyard trails in Stellenbosch.
Our walking leaders are exceptional people; they are qualified Mountain Leaders from the UK experienced in working abroad and safety procedures, adaptable and caring and always friendly. Walks are tailored to suit you and your preferences. We look for either circular or one-way routes of usually 5 – 8 miles in length, but with our own transport on hand we can even offer half-day options. The pace is up to you and with a team of 2 guides we can normally split the party and offer a choice to suit everyone. There will be a local guide whose knowledge on the fauna and flora will greatly enhance the walks.
Few other walking destinations offer so much and the added benefit of going on holiday to South Africa is that you will be visiting a very different country but one that is only 2 hours ahead of GMT, so there’s no jet lag! This is a walking holiday not to be missed.

What our world-class experts say...
"I am very privileged to have walked in some of the world's most outstanding walking destinations over the last sixteen years, as
the walking leader with Spencer Scott's walking groups. Working for Spencer Scott is different; trips are meticulously planned and we travel slowly
through remarkable landscapes meeting the wonderful local people. We stay in fabulous lodges and I have formed long-lasting friendships with many of
the like-minded walkers from the parties."
